How to Draw a Snowman

Snowmen are fabulous objects to draw during the winter season, especially if you live somewhere with tons of snow. This is a great opportunity for me to share my how-to-draw a snowman tutorial. This easy snowman drawing tutorial is perfect for adults and kids of all ages and drawing beginners.

Supplies Needed to Begin Drawing a Snowman
As you get ready to draw and doodle, make sure you have the right tools. Everyone has different preferences, but here is what I like to use.
- White sheet of paper or card stock
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Markers, colored pencils, or crayons. See this post for the best markers for coloring and doodling.
How to Draw a Snowman
Follow this complete step-by-step tutorial to get a simple yet cute design for a cute snowman! This is a great activity to complete on your own or with friends and family during the winter months. Add it to your list of art projects for the year or keep it in mind next time you doodle in your journal.
- Draw the Snowman’s Hat
Begin by drawing a dome with a brim to represent the snowman’s top hat. A little below that, draw a curved rectangle that will serve at the start of the scarf around the snowman’s neck.
- Sketch the Snowman Body
Add curved lines attaching the hat to the scarf on either side to form the snowman’s head. Add a rounded semi-circle at the base. This will be the body of the snowman. Don’t worry about making perfect circles; snowballs are never perfect.
- Add Details
This is the step where you add the tiny details of the snowman. I drew on two dark eyes with small white circles in the center. Add a triangle carrot nose and two small circles on the belly for buttons. I didn’t add a mouth, but feel free!
- Draw Arms and Final Touches
Add a straight line from the scarf on either side of the body. Draw little mittens on the end of either line. These are his adorable stick arms! I also added the free part of the scarf behind one of his arms!
- Color the Snowman
In this step, you will color your snowman! I colored my snowman red, white, and black. Get creative with the colors you use and customize your adorable cartoon snowman to your liking.
Fun Ways to Use the Snowman Drawing
After drawing your snowman, you might be wondering what you can do with it. Depending on what you draw it on, it can easily be used as a card, letter, or decoration. I personally love using drawings like this to make homemade cards for loved ones. You can even use this snowman drawing design on other surface like rocks, wood slices or ornaments.
