Make This Easy Wooden Spoon Grinch Christmas Craft

There are many variations of a “Grinch” Christmas craft floating around on the internet. I’ve seen everything from paper plate Grinch crafts to Grinch play-dough! However, I decided to keep things simple and only use a few materials that you can easily find and your kids can help you with.

This Grinch craft is made up of a wooden spoon, acrylic paint, paint pens, and a mini Santa hat. If you’re ready to get started on this craft, keep reading!

Supplies Needed to Make a Grinch Christmas Craft

How to Make a Grinch Christmas Craft: Instructions With Pictures

1. Paint the Wooden Spoon Green

Take your wooden spoon and your green paint, and paint the end of the spoon green (You may have to do two coats).

2. Outline the Grinch Face

Outline the Grinch’s face with a pencil (I just looked at a picture of the Grinch and copied it).

3. Fill in The Eyes

Fill in the outline of the eyes with a yellow paint pen.

4. Outline With Black

Fill in the other remaining outlines with a black paint pen (Don’t forget to put a black dot in each eye for the Grinch’s pupils).

Super glue or hot glue the mini Santa hat onto the end of the spoon (I tilted mine slightly).

Tips

This craft may be simple, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have some troubleshooting tips for you! First, I suggest using a flat paint brush to paint the wooden spoon. It prevents clumping and streaks while coating the spoon evenly. Second, if you’re not good at drawing, you can print out a cut-out of the Grinch’s face and trace over it to ensure accuracy! Lastly, make sure the paint is fully dry before you draw on it with a paint pen. The paint will smear and ruin the Grinch’s face, and we don’t want that!

Get Creative

I love DIY crafts because you can get so creative with them! For this craft, you could draw different expressions on the Grinch’s face (you might need a couple of spoons for this). You can also wrap the handle of the spoon in festive ribbon or paint it! You could do a red and white striped ribbon or paint the handle of the spoon red for an ultra-festive look!

Where to Buy Acrylic Paint

You can purchase acrylic paint at any craft store or on Amazon. Just make sure it’s electric green (or as close as possible to it) like the Grinch or it won’t turn out right!

What Type of Wooden Spoon Works Best with this Craft?

A wooden spoon with an oval end works best, but you can use whatever you have or can find! The color doesn’t matter, either. I chose a light color wooden spoon, but you can use dark brown, black, silver, etc. since you’re painting over the end with green paint!
