Yarn Wrapped Stick Wall HangingHi all! Hanni (craftplanter on Instagram) here…and I’m so happy to be guest posting on Sam’s, Color Made Happy blog! She and I both LOVE color and working with natural materials. You’ll see on my Instagram gallery that I’m a huge fan of creating with supplies that I already have. Being an avid crocheter and living in the country means this yarn wrapped sticks wall hanging project is right up my alley! Let’s dive in!

SUPPLIES (affiliate links are added for your convenience):

DIRECTIONS:

1. If you are using sticks that you’ve gathered outside, peel off the bark to make sure there aren’t any creepy crawlies hiding inside! You can also use dowels rods if you prefer.Yarn Wrapped Stick Wall Hanging

2.  Tie a knot around the stick using your first color of yarn. Begin wrapping it around and around the stick. I like to wrap the yarn around the stick AND the loose end of yarn (left from tying the knot). Keep wrapping as much as you desire, then tie off and trim the loose ends.

3.  Repeat step 2 with another color. Begin wrapping as close to the first color as you can so you won’t see any of the stick peeking through the color changes.Yarn Wrapped Stick Wall Hanging

4.  Keep wrapping and changing colors until the entire stick is wrapped with yarn. Get creative with your yarn color choices. You could do a repeating pattern using colors of a favorite sports team or maybe even a completely neutral palette of whites, grays and creams.

5. Repeat the entire process with as many sticks as you want your wall hanging to have. I’ve used three, but you could just as easily make a simple hanging with one stick or a large hanging with 5 or more!Yarn Wrapped Stick Wall Hanging

6. Cut a long length of yarn and fold it in half to find the middle.  Using this center point as a guide, (because it’s where the piece will hang from) tie the yarn around the first stick on both ends, so that the stick will hang horizontally.

7. Repeat step 6 with as many yarn wrapped sticks as you have created.

8. Snip off the loose ends, then hang up your new colorful piece!Yarn Wrapped Stick Wall Hanging
