Every year I love to come up with a new leaf art project. Last year I had a ton of fun making these watercolor doodle leaves. This year I thought it would be fun to play with metallics and create shiny doodle leaf art!
Metallic Doodle Leaf Art Craft
These metallic leaves would look beautiful as part of your fall decor. Add them to a fall centerpiece or use them as part of a tablescape. The best part is that they are super easy to make and a great project for all skill levels.
Supplies Needed:
- Leaves – You don’t want your leaves to be too dry when you select them or else they will crumble. Pick green leaves or use ones that have already fallen on the ground.
- Flat Black Paint + Primer Spray or Black Acrylic Paint – I used the spray primer + paint because I like to cover multiple leaves at once. I also like the look of the flat black finish of the spray.
- Gold Metallic Spray Paint
- Gold Paint Pen – I used this gold paint pen which is one of my favorites. You could also use a gold metallic sharpie.
- Black Pen – I used both a black paint marker but you could also use a fine point Sharpie pen.

How to Press, Paint and Prep Your Leaves for Doodle Leaf Art
- Once you’ve selected your leaves, press them under something heavy like large books.
- Keep your leaves under something heavy at least overnight.
- Once pressed, spray paint the front of your leaves with spray primer + paint, gold metallic spray paint or paint with acrylic paint.
- Let your leaf dry completely and then press again overnight as you did when prepping.
- Now that your leaf is prepped, it’s time to add designs. Mandalas make for wonderful designs on top of leaves. You can also add repeating patterns. The design doesn’t have to be complicated to be beautiful.
Now that you have your leaves you can use them for different fall crafts or as decoration around the house or on a table. If you create your own leaf I’d love to see it. Come show me on Instagram or Facebook! I often share examples of my tutorials being made!
